MacBook AirSecond Draft The “thinnovatinlgy” new, laptop MacBookAir will soon hit markets throughout the world as the thinnest notebook that does not compromise on anything but size. Unlike other ultrportables, MacBook Air measures 0.16 inches at its thinnest point and 0.71 inches at its thickest point. This sleek laptop comes with the brand new Mac OS X Leopard, a full-sized keyboard, a built-in iSight camera, and many more features for the price of $1799.00. One of the many features is the oversized trackpad, which uses the same sensational multi-touch technology incorporated in the iPhone or iPod Touch, allowing you to swipe, rotate, pinch, and even zoom in on text. This apparently ideal laptop ‘lacks’ one major thing that has to be bought separately, a Mac Superdrive, or CD/DVD drive, due to the lack of space. Nevertheless, the minds at Macintosh made sure that consumers could rent movies wirelessly from the iTunes store and back up files using the recently created Apple Time Capsule. Even though no external memory can be added to it, the MacBook Air comes with 2 GB of RAM, 80 GB of Hard Drive memory, and a specially designed Intel Core 2 Duo chip Processor. According to Mac, this laptop is ready for the wireless lifestyle, installed with Bluetooth technology that allows you to exchange files and programs with other laptops. Even transferring files from older Macs to the MacBook Air is done so wirelessly. Overall, MacBook Air’s inspiration was to fulfill a traveler’s calling; a laptop so slim and featherlike that could tag along anywhere without the need of bothersome, tricky wires. Their calling has been answered. Ines Michelena

Computers finally installed!!
show not tell
By: Ines Michelena
Wasting your time just listening to the teacher complain about the uninstalled computers all period long while wishing your fingers could be gliding over the smooth keys, typing faster by the second is a frustrating experience. As the students all crammed inside the classroom, I could hear their joyous cackles from the hallway. The soft buzzing sounds of the tiny motors and chips shaking inside the black glossy boxes resonanted throughout the room. Everyone was smiling as their fingers reunited with the bland clicking keypads. It was as though they were remebering something ancient and from a lost world or life. Student’s articles were printing by the millions; they were popping out of the printers like babies or factory toys. An imaginary beat, playing in the mind of the students kept the rhythm of the group stable. They were working as a whole, as team, cooperating with one another and effectively producing the Beachcomber. The teacher’s thin lips showed a hint of satisfaction as he tapped his foot to the rhythm. This made us all smile, given the fact that he had been fairly disappointed throughout the last grading period due to a lack of articles. The new and improved Microsoft program had amazing features such as themes and things to help you write rapidly. Our newsteam was finally coming together and our publications were evolving into first-prize pieces. The computers were the trainers, pushing us to keep writing better and quicker. It was any Journalist’s dream.
